Course Outcomes: 

CO1: Calibrate of thermocouples techniques and plot phase diagram by cooling curve
CO2: Prepare ferrous and non-ferrous specimen for metallography study
CO3: Operation of optical microscope and identify the microstructure of ferrous and Non-ferrous sample

Course modules and teaching hours: 

Module 1: (6 hours)
Experiment on Temperature measurement, calibration of thermocouples, Experiment of Pb-Zn for phase diagram by cooling curve

Module 2: (12 hours)
Metallography, study of metallurgical microscope, specimen preparation for metallography, etching technique, image analyzer, quantitative metallography. Experiment on sample preparation and microstructural study on Steel, Cast Iron, Gray cast Iron, Malleable cast iron, white cast Iron, Copper, and Aluminum

Module 3: (4 hours) Diffusion experiment with Zn in Cu. Grain size measurement
